AURORA
This is just something fun to do if you want a nice abstract pattern. Start off with the gradient tool. If you're using Photoshop 3.0x, then set the foreground and background colors to whatever, or use one of the preinstalled gradients if you use Photoshop 4. Now, create a gradient, linear or radial, it doesn't matter. Now, set the gradient tool to Difference mode. Now just play around with the gradient tool until you get something you like. This won't really give you an artwork by itself, but it makes a nice texture or two if you play around with it. I use this a lot for text and so on.
