This effect is something that
Otaku figured out while pretending to work on a science project.
Behold.
Start out with a plain black image.
This one was 5" x 5", but it shouldn't matter.
Feather the lasso tool with something like 40 pixels.
(I know, I hate feathered selections too)
Now create a random ellipsoid selection. This'll be your nebula
outline. Now, with red as foreground color and black as
background color, render clouds.
Now, create a new layer.
Expand the selection by about 10, and replace red with blue.
Render Clouds again.
Now, give the blue layer an opacity setting of about 25-30%.
Flatten the image.
Now, create another new layer.
Create a new selection. It should be small and towards the center
of your nebula. Replace blue with yellow. Render clouds.
Seriously cut down the opacity (I used about 12%).
Now go to the background layer and twirl it slightly.
I used 50%. Now, flatten the image, go to the center of your image,
and render a Lens Flare.
Your nebula is complete.

OK, so maybe it doesn't have that many practical uses. It's
cool, though, and that's all I ask.
While Otaku and I were writing this, we had lots of
fun saying "hee hee--billowing cloud of gas!"
We're adolescent males--what do you expect? |
