SMOOTHING JAGGIES This is how I smooth images if they pixellate when I scale them. You will lose a little detail, but not enough to cause any real damage to the image, plus it can always be faded (in Photoshop 4 only) or you can duplicate the image before the filter onto a new layer and then apply it on the new layer, then adjust the opacity...but anyway, here's the technique:
| Start out with the image that you want smoothed. (I have a bad example at right) Now, select the area that you want smoothed. If you want the whole image smoothed, then just select all. Now, apply the Median filter (Filter/Noise/Median) with a radius of whatever. Generally you should keep it to a radius of anywhere from 1 to 3; if your image needs more than that then it's probably beyond hope. Examples at right. |
