This is part of the Brejcha Personal and Disability Resource Site.
Note: unless you're compulsive (which I am definitely not ) just read through my description and don't bother with the individual links on this page because there is a link to a complete Menu of pages with all the below - and more - in place at the bottom of this page, and the same menu can be accessed through a link at the bottom of each page. That menu will lead you to disability resources, personal pages, a science fiction page, a writer's resource page, and more. And please keep in mind that this site is a work in progress, and I will be adding more resources and pages as I develop or find them, or as I get suggestions. E-mail me with any corrections or your comments to help others! feedback to alexbrejcha@yahoo.com is greatly appreciated. Also, you'll note that this is a fairly utilitarian site with no music, banners, or dancing icons (okay, there are a couple of quick-loading animated GIFs courtesy of The Graphics Station, but only a couple). This is intentional to keep the site fast and accessible to all disabilities, and because I'd rather spend my time adding new resources. .
My name is Alex (F. Alexander Brejcha), and after disabilities upset my original art studies and life plans, it took me a while to get my head together (a bunch of wasted years), but my home page mottos are now part and parcel of my life and have allowed me to keep living and commuting independently to work a full-time job as a night-shift hospital telephone operator (code and trauma dispatcher and answering service for several hundred doctors) despite advanced multiple sclerosis that has paralyzed me from the waist down and resulted in a number of other problems. And my revised outlook on life has helped me develop a decent bibliography in my freelance career-on-the-side as a writer of commercial science fiction and non-fiction. It has also given me a useful perspective for peer counseling, and the volunteer work I do assisting various disability organizations such as the Greater Delaware Valley chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
I want to do two things with this website: First and foremost, I want to offer help and inspiration to people with disabilities -- and their families -- by providing a range of resources and information I hope to keep updated. Among other pages, I have posted reprints of my non-fiction newspaper publications and magazine articles on disability issues; original articles on keeping mentally and physically fit, as well as articles on sexuality and disabilities (for men, for women, and for couples); a page with linked listings of disability magazines and a page with hundreds of categorized, described, and linked web sites (leading to a couple of thousand other sites) for internet disability resources including products, services and organizations for all manner of disabilities and health conditions - and I encourage suggestions on resources I may have missed.
The second reason for this site is that, as an active member of the SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America), I want to show off a few neat science fiction sites, and establish a professional presence on the web to make others aware of my publications (important as I am presently finishing up three books [science fiction, horror, and disability empowerment]) and hope to whet potential readers' appetites). And I have also put up a Writer's Resources page with a selection of useful sites for both professional writers and those working to break into the profession.
And to provide some free reading, I also have links in place to some of my publications listed on my Bibliography page so you can read some of my disability-related stories part of a book presently out with a publisher. Other stories are linked on my Menu page below.
But here is a link to my complete MENU of resources and links I hope will amuse, inform and inspire and I invite you to explore.
Any questions or comments, just E-mail me to help others! d please, if you find any errors or dead links, drop me a mail. And after you have explored my site, please
