Deala 2.0 is a collaboration I'm working on with
Redgoat. It's a little game in which the object is to buy and sell drugs throughout the
Philadelphia School District.
Before I get a lot of nasty e-mails, I would like to say that neither Redgoat nor I use drugs,
and we don't think that they're all that funny either. So why we wrote a game about it is
kind of beyond me. It was all Redgoat's idea. He did Deala 1.0, and I just did the UI and some
basic programming for Deala 2.0 .
Speaking of the UI, though it looks nice and cool, it also blows up the file size from
80K to about 450K. It's still not that much space, but when Deala2 is completed, we'll be
offering two versions: Redgoat's butt ugly version, and my nice, pretty, slightly larger
version. Both will be free, and both will have the same features, but it'll just
look best in mine.
Deala2 is being written in Visual Basic 5.0, and it may not run under Windows 3.1.
(It might; we haven't tested.) It will definitely not run on Macintosh, unless there's a
VB5 for Mac.
If IE for Mac supports ActiveX, then we might release an ActiveX version of Deala2, or maybe
we'll get Gumbug to write us a Java version.
Either way, Deala2 will probably not be out for Mac for a while, if ever, so don't hold your
breath.
As Deala2 continues to develop, I'll post screenshots and beta versions. Right now, you can
download a version from Redgoat that
doesn't have the UI laid in and is incomplete; the complete version will include a loan shark,
enforcers, a Save/Load function, and (possibly) Badass Mealey G. (Masterman joke.)
We are trying to keep the file size of Deala2g (the graphical version) to less than one
megabyte, so that it will download quickly and fit on a floppy. Right now, the file size is
about 400K, and probably by the time it's finished it'll be about 600-800K. The size of
Redgoat's version is about 80K as of the time
of this writing.
Currently, I'm working on a web page for Electric Stoat, but since it is not yet finished,
I'm not going to post the URL here. When it is up, it'll have links to beta versions of Deala2,
completed versions of Deala 1, small bios of Redgoat and myself, and probably some explanations
of why we're not putting our names on Deala. Also, hopefully by the end of April I'll have a
graphical beta of Deala2. (Deala2g)
Meanwhile, you can e-mail us at
electricstoat@mailcity.com.
That'ss all the information on Deala2 for now, but before you go, here's
a screenshot.
