We set this game up from the irc chatroom located at irc.gamma.net #Stellar_Crisis. I had said that I wanted an Old Timer quality opponent for win 100 and turned some other offers down but when BugLady took up the challenge, I could not refuse. I responded something like, "Yes, she fits the bill!" And did she ever. Early in the game, shortly after we met, I was convinced that she had the setup advantage and would surely win. Some unorthodox ship moves and some clearly different stylistic play evened things out. In the midgame I forced my way onto 21,23 and got a pair of sci ships into BugLady space and from there managed to scout almost all of her planets. I then did a flythrough with a group of attacks with 1 minesweeper but was unable to cause any damage. Shortly thereafter BugLady got a group of 6 ships in on me and did a flythrough via 21,22 on up to my HW. I countered this with 7 attack ships and followed her up and down the western chain. We massed ships and faced each other off for a while. BugLady nuked 21,22 which I managed to retake while I nuked Corn. The critical move came at update 25 which gave me the shot to win. I had a fleet of 26 BR 2 attacks with 1 BR 2 Minesweeper on 21,23 while BugLady had 26 attacks on Rye. I decided to hit Wheat, expecting BugLady to cover. Since I had one extra ship, I expected to win the battle. The only real benefit I wanted was to kill off the large fleet to hopefully get to BR3 sooner. BugLady instead choose to hit 21,22, combining her flythrough group for a total of 32 ships. But that was her undoing since she could not cover my fleet, I had a clear route to her HW. BugLady then built 3 attacks and a minefield on Wheat but I moved all ships to her HW. She also tried to invade 21,22 with the flythrough group but I moved all 7 ships there and succeeding in stopping the invasion even though all of my ships were destroyed in the process. I now had 27 ships including just 1 Sweeper on her HW while she had 21, ships on 20,22 and 6 surviving ships on 21,22. And wouldn't you know it, my sweeper moved to the top of the ships list. I built attack ships on HW to a total of 8, then dismantled 3 of them and the Minesweeper moved back down the list. BugLady built 3 attacks and a minefield to defend, so my fleet faced a total of 6 attacks and a minefield. Set to nuke, Game Over! If my attack failed and the sweeper got destroyed, the minefield would have detonated and BugLady would have won as I probably could not have built enough ships in time to stop her from nuking me.
