Bohonos wins 1st game in best 2 out of 3 in effort to join Bloodguard Clan W.A.R.
The first game of the best of 3 series I had to win to get into Clan WAR. I was originally scheduled to play DPR and Hepatia was supposed to play Manny but Hepatia, Manetheren, BigB and myself were all on IRC and waiting for DPR to show up so I could play. Hepatia didn't have time to start and wanted to play later but Manny wanted to get his games over with so we switched opponents. I had mediocre ag on all my nearby planets so I was unable to trick and get a builder at my front so I was forced to rely on a stargate. Manatheren had plenty of ag but was having difficulty colonizing due to my fleet nearby. The game turned into a race to be the first to make the breakthrough that would allow them to gain the advantage. We both probed each others defenses trying to find a system to nuke that would give us the edge while trying to keep the other from colonizing by sending attacks at the other's front. I hit BR3 first and withdrew my fleet while overbuilding the maximum number of BR3's I could maintain with my fuel. Manetheren managed to nuke 20,20 but I went straight for his hw when I realized he wouldn't have enough fuel to support a BR2 fleet large enough to destroy mine and he wouldn't have time to overbuild a BR3 fleet. If I had lost the battle over his hw I would have been dead for sure, he had begun to get the advantage in eco. A very tight game, and a very exciting game.
