A fast-paced, hard-hitting view of life in the mafia.
This a fascinating glimpse into a lifestyle many will never experience. Pillegi does an artful job of making the reader feel as if he is there, by revealing the mobsters lingo, dress, and secret hand-shakes. This is the first account of mafia life which does not glamourize the 'gangster' lifestyle. A must read for anyone who has ever played the lotto while wearing flip-flops and a salmon skinned coat (w or w/out feathers).

"Goodfellas" - Paperback Edition GOODFELLAS ARE AT THEIR BEST!
Great true story mafia movie about a man and the trouble he encounters while in his 30 years in the mafia. Realistic and superb! 5 stars are deserved. My personal favorite mafia movie. Portrays the real mafia.
The bluntness in which the truths in this book were revealed completely captivated me.It was,in my opinion,by-far the best true-crime book ever written.

Martin Scorsese's 1990 masterpiece GoodFellas immortalizes the hilarious, horrifying life of actual gangster Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), from his teen years on the streets of New York to his anonymous exile under the Witness Protection Program. The director's kinetic style is perfect for recounting Hill's ruthless rise to power in the 1950s as well as his drugged-out fall in the late 1970s; in fact, no one has ever rendered the mental dislocation of cocaine better than Scorsese. Scorsese uses period music perfectly, not just to summon a particular time but to set a precise mood. GoodFellas is at least as good as The Godfather without being in the least derivative of it. Joe Pesci's psycho improvisation of Mobster Tommy DeVito ignited Pesci as a star, Lorraine Bracco scores the performance of her life as the love of Hill's life, and every supporting role, from Paul Sorvino to Robert De Niro, is a miracle.

The Movie Soundtrack
Martin Scorsese's epic gangster movie left me breathless and so did the music. I loved the soundtrack so much but there is a lot missing such as the Sex Pistol's version of "My Way". As for the other songs, they are GREAT!!! It starts out perfectly with Tony Bennett's "Rags To Riches" and ends with Eric Clapton's "Layla". In between are the sounds of Aretha Franklin, The Shangri-Las, Bobby Darin, Muddy Waters, and more! It's one of the great soundtrack albums and has a great selection of oldies! Go get it!!
1. Rags To Riches - Tony Bennett
2. Sincerely - The Moonglows
3. Speedo - The Cadillacs
4. Stardust - Billy Ward And His Dominoes
5. Look In My Eyes - The Chantels
6. Life Is But A Dream - The Harptones
7. Remember (Walkin' In The Sand) - Shagri-Las
8. Baby I Love You - Aretha Franklin
9. Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darin
10. Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream
11. Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters
12. Layla (Piano Exit) - Derek And The Dominos

Director Martin Scorsese reunites with members of his GoodFellas gang (writer Nicholas Pileggi; actors Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Frank Vincent) for a three-hour epic about the rise and fall of mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (De Niro), a character based on real-life gangster Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal. (It's modeled after on Wiseguy and GoodFellas and Pileggi's true crime book Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas.) Through Rothstein, the picture tells the story of how the Mafia seized, and finally lost control of, Las Vegas gambling.
