Civil War Library and Museum General Information

Firearms, edged weapons, uniforms, accouterments and flags are among the objects exhibited in the Library and Museum's three floors. Here one can view the uniform General George Meade wore while commanding the Union army at the battle of Gettysburg, the saddle upon which General John Reynolds was riding when killed at Gettysburg, and the words written by President Abraham Lincoln. To see a sample of the artifacts just click here. A changing exhibits galleryensures new material for the visitor. It examines such subjects as women in the war, the black soldier, military railroads, English Contributions, and prisoners of war.

The Civil War Library and Museum is well known for its superb research facilities, which are continually upgraded. With more than 12,000 volumes, 100 linear feet of archival/manuscript material, over 100 reels of microfilm, and nearly 5,000 photographs, the facility is one of the most comprehensive Civil War libraries in the country.

 To further enhance the visitor's experience, the Library and Museum offers regularly scheduled programs and lectures and has a Civil War Round Table which meets monthly at the facility. The museum shop offers a wide variety of merchandize for all ages, from souvenirs to battle histories, toys and art work.
