It would be logical that the models were built and ready for the opening day ceremonies of the original Disneyland Mark I monorail during the summer of 1959, however, there is no record in the 1959/60 Schuco toy catalog of the monorails. I have read articles that the monorails were made around 1961. It appears now that the monorails were manufactured by Schuco until 1969, but the monorail line was a huge disappointment since they never sold well. One of the reasons the sets never sold well was because they were very expensive in terms of a toy during the 60's. The small set (G and Gift Sets) sold for around $39.95, the middle set (H Set) for 49.95, and the large set (S Set) for a whopping $89.95. Please share your experiences with buying the sets at the time they were made. | |
