Telesteering 3000

Telesteering 3000

First produced in 1938 or 39 the Telesteering 3000 came complete with Steering wheel, Ball, 12 skiddles, and key held in A metal tray in the box. Also included were two Steering Wires for connecting the steering wheel to the car, one short for use when running on a table and one long for use when running on the floor.

The 3000 has three speeds and A stop position on the lever protruding from the front windshield. The positions were marked with paint (0, I, II, III) and are often found worn to where thay are barely visible or not visible at all.

The Instruction Sheet suggests various activities useing the supplied ball and skiddles. It also boasts - No more sliding about on one's knees when playing with this car.

Telesteering 3000 Set

This set from my collection shows the complete original set and slip on cardboard box. The rubber connectors for the wires have hardened (an extra connector is supplied in each pack, see the Steering Wires Enlargement) with age and must be replaced on all the Telesteering sets I have ever seen. These wires differ from the Varianto control wires in that thay are actualy wire and not spring like. The steering wheel is geared for smooth operation and works much better than the Variantos.

This model was made both before and after World War II and its remote control device was the forerunner of many like controled toys from many manufactorers. The steering wheel control is still with us today on radio controled toys and was also found on battery operated toys and track type racing sets powered by transformers.

Notice on these cars that the steering tire is rubber. One rear drive wheel has A rubber covering with groves and the other rear wheel is metal and can slip freely, This handles the differental nicley. The two outside (metal) wheels in the front never touch the ground.

Telesteering Marker     Some models, I beleave the models made before the war, Had the speed lever indicators painted on. Other models had the indicators indented and then painted.     Some sets, I beleave the sets made after the war, had two small markers in the tray on either side of the ball. These markers (see pic right), inpressed "Schuco" were to sit atop the skiddles according to the instructions (See the german instruction booklet on the Instruction Sheet (1.5 MB) page).

Some sets, I beleave some of the sets made after the war, Have A solid steering wheel, while others have A spoked steering wheel.

The last 3000's produced were packed in the newer printed cardboard box (see pic below). I beleave the VW bodys were also produced as Micro-Racers and I have seen Micro-Racers with the same police style. These 3000's, like the Micro-Racers were also made with solid colors.
