Then second my will and desire is that the land where I now live containing some three hundred and seventy seven acres be divided between my two sons Charles D. Penland and George Newton Penland as follows. Beginning on the line between me and J.R. Jones where the road leading from my house to Thomas Moore's creek crosses the same by way of my stables, then a direct line to my spring branch, ten steps above my spring, then a direct line to (Hartsell's) spring branch where the trail leading around my fence crosses the same, then down with said branch to (Reunion) creek, then down with Hominy creek to my lower line__all the land south and west of the before described line is to be Charles D. Penland's at the death of his mother, and all the land east and north of the said line aforesaid is to be George Penland's at the death of his mother.

Then third, my will further is that my beloved wife have the use and possession of all my estate both real and personal during her natural life.

Then fourth my will also is that my son William Penland have the tracts of land that he now lives on it being the same that was deeded in trust for me.

Then fifth my will is that my son Abraham have a negro girl Caroline daughter of Ruth.

Then sixth I will to my son Charles D. Penland my negro boy Riley.

Then seventh I will to my son John H. Penland two negroes Sarah and William children of Ruth.

Then eighth I will to James Cathey's three children twenty-five dollars each, to be paid at the death of my wife.

Then ninth my will and desire further is that all the rest of my estate not hereunto before mentioned be sold and divided equally between my children after the death of my dear wife. My will further is that my two sons John H. and G.N. Penland be executors of this my last will and testament and I hereby do constitute and appoint them as executors to this my last will and testament this
3rd day of May 1852, done and published in the presence of the subscribing witnesses."

General Notes: In the 1730's there was another migration, this time from NJ to Eastern PA. The T was dropped about then. John settled first in Chester County, then later St. George's Hundred. An area later was made part of Northern Delaware near New Castle. He appears to have been the father of William, Robert, and George, who about 1760 moved to North Carolina and of Alexander who moved to Kentucky about 1779. Therefore John is probably the common ancestor of all of the Penland's
