Roar is relocating

ROAR is currently located on a server at a company called Netreach. I was an employee at Netreach until about a year ago, when I was laid off. I was allowed to keep my web account, but in the past few months Netreach has changed their administrative policies so I can no longer perform certain ROAR functions. Because of this, I have found a new host and am preparing to relocate ROAR. The details of the move are as follows:

When Will ROAR Relocate?

ROAR will be moved on or around January 26th, 2002. During the move the current ROAR web site will be down for a few hours while I move the data. I have just completed a test run, and I anticipate the total outage will be no more than a few hours. [The relocation would have been done sooner, but I have to go to Winter Offensive ;--]

Will Any Data Be Lost?

No. The data from the current ROAR site will all be moved. When the new ROAR starts, it will start at exactly the point the current ROAR site left off.

Should I Wait to Add New Playings to ROAR?

No. As I said, all the data added to the current ROAR will be in the new ROAR.

What is the New URL?

I will provide that information in a few weeks, just to avoid confusion. After the new site is up, I will replace the old site with a link to the new site and post the new URL.

Will ROAR be Any Different?

I hope that you will think it better. I have already made some minor changes that improve the user interface. For the most part the site you will see is the ROAR of old. After the move, I will be adding other improvements.

Some Final Thoughts.

ROAR started over four years ago with around 13,500 records from the previous listmeisters, and now it has nearly 30,000 records. Even if I had never heard the message from so many of you by e-mail and in person, I would be able to tell that ROAR is important to the ASL community just from the effort you have put into adding your playings. I look forward to keeping ROAR going in its new location and improving ROAR to provide better service to the ASL community.
