HATTERAS TUNA!
The fabulous Hatteras Winter Bluefin season
is a short one, but a great one. Call well in advance to book a Giant Bluefin
or Yellowfin trip during the late Winter or early Spring aboard the JULIA
III before our remaining open dates are filled. For the past two
seasons we done exceptionally well with both Giant Bluefin and School Yellowfin
in Hatteras, and we're hoping to continue on into next year. Fight large
school bluefin tuna that can range from 250 to 350 pounds with the occassional
true 700 pound giant bluefin showing up once in a while. Multiple
daily hookups are often the rule at Hatteras rather than the exception.
With our unlimited rods and 130 class Penn Internationals, you will normally
fight the fish for 30-45 minutes from the chair. We then tag and
release all Bluefin. National Marine Fisheries Service Tags are used
to track a fish's travels as well as his growth. It's a great program
and I like to see our anglers participate. We are licensed to fish
for and land all legal Atlantic Tunas, and we're especially experienced
with big fish. The JULIA III is well-equipped to handle these monsters...
so we challenge you to get into the fighting chair and wrestle with a giant!
This is an unforgetable experience that cannot be described!
Later in the Spring the Yellowfin fishing is
very good, and the Bonitas literally jump into the boat. King Mackeral
are also running during this same time, so they make a nice alternative.
We also have scored with nice-sized Wahoo, which are excellent table fare,
and a fantastic fighting fish. So count on bringing home some delicious
fresh Yellowfin Tuna steaks, maybe some Wahoo or Mackeral, and lots of
great pictures to show your friends! The first Blue Marlin of the
season is usually landed in mid-April, so the possibility of billfish is
real. Hatteras Village Marina offers a complete fish cleaning &
filleting service right at the docks so when you get home you just pop
the fish onto the grill. There are also several very reasonable resturants
and motels nearby, and several of these resturants will cook your catch!
Diamond Shoals, the hottest fishing grounds in North Carolina's winter
tuna fishery, is only 26 miles from our dock, much closer to Hatteras Inlet
than Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, so save time and fish with us now!
