Cantellers

By Mary (Bade) Long

Cantellers By Mary (Bade) Long When my daughter Allyson was about three years old, my husband Dan and I took her to Friendly's for dinner. While Allyson was coloring, we quietly ordered a plate of onion rings. A few minutes went by and the onion rings came out. Allyson took a few bites and said, "Daddy! These are really good!" Dan looked at her and asked, "Do you know what they are?" I quickly interrupted because every parent knows that once you say what it is, they won't eat it. I looked at Dan wide eyed and said, "YOU CAN'T TELL HER!!" Allyson replied, "What are cantellers?" "Oh, that's what you're eating," I said. She said, "Hmm, these cantellers are really good!" Of course this didn't last long once someone spilled the beans about it to her. Now she can't stand the smell of them!
