The Medic is urguably [like everything else], one one the most effective units in StarCraft. Before BROOD WAR, you had to send a group of Marines out to battle, and they not only got masacred, but they were as good as dead, [if they weren't actually dead]. Now, when the Medic is teamed up with a group of Marines (or other humans), as firepower is exchanged, she heals them automatically - during the battle! If anyone is still alive - the Medic restores them back to full health. When the Medic is used properly, a group of Marines is now virtually indestructable!!! There are two other abilities that the Medic has: Restoration and Optic Flare, but I have not found them practical or worthwhile. The Optic Flare 'blinds' a targeted unit, and it can't see to attack. Here is an example of some Marines and Medics in battle. Without the Medics, this battle would have lasted less than 10 seconds. With 2 Medics, and 6 Marines (transported by Dropship), you get much more 'bang for your buck' - over 30 seconds more!!! Even though I eventually got destoyed in this example, this demonstrates how signifigant the Medic is... (essential).

Even against a group of Wraiths, the Medic allows Marines to Go, Go, Go!!!
