The Queen is one unit you can use to distract, and irritate your enemy. I cannot determine any real damage that the Queen can do, but by evolving it's various abilities, there are many biological tricks she (it) can perform - most of which are extremely unique, and need to be mastered to be effective.
Of course, the Lair, and then the Queen's Nest must be mutated. After which, the Queen can evolve the following abilities: Gamete Meiosis - By increasing the reproductive rate of the symbiotic and parasitic creatures that serve the Queen, her ability to spawn these creatures is augmented. Spawn Broodlings - The Queen spawns Broodlings by first infesting her victim with self-replicating spores. Upon maturation, the Broodlings erupt from their host and search for new enemies. Parasite - By attaching this tiny parasite to an enemy unit, the Zerg can see through the eyes of the host. Ensnare - The Queen vomits forth spores that secrete a sticky mucous, slowing any units that become enmeshed in her gelatinous trap. Infestation - By infesting a Terran Command Center with her parasitic bio-toxin, the Queen brings volatile new creations into the Swarm. |
Mutalisk, Guardian, and Lurker: |
The Mutalisk, the Guardian, and the (new) Devourer are shown to the left, along with the Greater Spire, which is required to morph the basic Mutalisk into the Guardian or Devourer. Plenty of gas and minerals are required as the units from the Greater Spire are hatched in numbers.
Shown also, next to the Greater Spire, is the Spire. Two (like the Armory and Forge / Cybernetics Core) can allow faster upgrading for units. Always protect these structures throughout the game. The Mutalisk is the basic flying unit of the Zerg (simpler than that, are the Scorge, which produce light explosions on impact), and a group of 12 Mutalisks can quickly scout terrain, and put up a good fight when encountering enemy troops. They look like shrimp with wings, and are a light, fighting unit. They have the advantage of attacking land and air. For heavier attacks, read on! The Guardian is essential to overpowering and destroying an enemy base. This unit can only attck the ground, but it produces much more firepower than the Mutalisk. The Guardian also has a greater firing range that surpasses that of the Photon Cannon, Missle Turret, or Spore Colony. That alone makes it invaluble, because every properly defended base is surrounded by these!

A group of Guardians can safely destroy Spore Colonies, Missle Turrets, and Photon Cannons

Land units are no match for the Guardian
Although there are no opposing air-units in these screenshots,
pairing Guardians up with Mutalisk (or Devourers) are a good practice.
Gaurdians are defenseless against air attacks.
