Recent Israel-Related Political
Cartoons
During the first 3 weeks in October, the Inquirer
published 7 cartoons about the Middle East--4 by its staff
cartoonist Tony Auth, and 3 others reprinted from other
newspapers. Every one of the 7 was critical of Israel. Not
one one of them displayed any recognition of the fact that
the Arabs were the aggressors in the conflict. They showed
Prime Minister Netanyahu preparing to stab a dove of peace
(10/16); celebrating the lack of progress toward peace
(10/4); deliberately trying to provoke the Arabs to violence
(10/6 and 10/19); harming peace with settlements (10/20);
and trying to wreck the Oslo accords (10/15). One went so
far as portray Netanyahu with a large tunnel in his head,
in place of brains, with the caption "A Tunnel in Jerusalem"
(10/1).
