In Defense of Cal Thomas
On May 21st the Inquirer published a column by Cal
Thomas in which he wrote that:
"the goal of Palestinians is not compromise and coexistence. For
them, such things are not ends but means to complete and total control of all the land and
the elimination of every Jew living and dead, from it."
On May 26 the Inquirer published a letter by Sayed M. Omran Secretary
of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in which he
wrote "No reasonable person would take seriously Thomas' assertion that the goal of
the Palestinians is the "elimination of every Jew, living and dead." (from
Israel). Mr. Omran accused Cal Thomas of being hysterical and a warmonger.
Mr. Omran, lets remember a little history. On the day that Israel
declared its independence, the Arab League Secretary, General Azzam Pasha declared
"jihad", a holy war. He said, "This will be a war of extermination and a
momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the
Crusades". The Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin Al Husseini stated, "I declare a
holy war, my Moslem brothers! Murder the Jews! Murder them all!" On the day that
Israel declared its independence the armies of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq
invaded with the declared intent of destroying it. Lest Mr. Omran argues that , that was
then and this is now, lets consider an event that happened two days before I wrote this
letter in Gaza where an Israeli tomato grower Oz Levran, was stoned. On May 25th he was
driving near Kfar Darom, when Palestinian children began hurling rocks at his car, one of
which smashed the windshield. "I jumped out of the car to try to catch the child who
threw the stone, but he escaped," Levran told Israel's channel 7 news station.
"Once I returned to my car, Palestinian cars came and encircled us. We couldn't move.
The drivers left their cars and began pounding my car with stones. The Arab policemen
joined the attackers by throwing rocks themselves,
Mr. Omran, is Cal Thomas the hysterical warmonger or are the the Arabs
who stoned Oz Levran the hysterical warmongers?
Sincerely,
Mark Feinstein
